History & Philosophy
Ashley’s Children, also known as Ashley Strickland’s Children Corporation was founded by DeBorah Wilder in 2008 in Nashville, Tennessee to bridge the foster care and juvenile justice youth
who are transitioning out of State’s custody with community leaders and mentors. DeBorah Wilder adopted Ashley Strickland in 2004 but tragically lost her in an accidental death in 2007.
Before Ashley’s death, she worked with DeBorah in helping youth with transitional needs such as clothing, housing, food, household items and transportation.
Ashley’s Children has taken these good deeds and built their values and beliefs by working with these teens to not only assist with their transition but also educate them with
independent living services. Ashley’s Children teaches key areas such as career planning, communication skills, community involvement, daily living, housing & money management,
social relationships, transportation and work life.
Ashley’s Children partners with individuals such as doctors, lawyers, musicians, teachers, landscapers, contractors and all types people from many different career fields to work as
mentors in the community for our youth. They bring different backgrounds, cultures and philosophies as they work one on one with our youth to develop a stronger transition for them into society.
Our values of Acceptance, Safety, Honor, Loyalty, Esteem and Youth are demonstrated with everyone in our program. We believe that all youth are resources to be developed, not problems
to be solved. We believe in the community and in the youth of Ashley’s Children to strengthen and offer opportunities of hope, dreams and healing. We believe in Providing Youth the Wisdom to Soar.
